A page’s description meta tag provides search engines a summary of what the page is about. A page’s title may have few words, whereas a meta description tags could even have some sentences or a short paragraph.
If this summary is shorter than its ideal length of 70 characters, then it is not an ideal summary of the page content for users, who may not understand what the page is all about. Search engines like Google provide a limited summary of the page. So site owners need to have web page summaries at least of 70 characters.
Google stipulates no limits on the length of a meta description but search engine snippets get truncated to fit in with device widths.
